Hello, and thank you for your interest in our study. The study is about people’s enjoyment of photographs and social events. You’ll be shown 20 pictures from the recent graduate student campout and will be asked about your enjoyment of the pictures, as well as some additional questions. Please participate only if you attended this year’s graduate student campout as either a participant or a guest. If you have not, please close this window (but thank you for your interest).

Your participation in this study will take between 10 and 20 minutes. By participating, you will earn $3 + 5 cents for every picture viewed for a charitable organization to be chosen by the majority. The organization receiving the most votes will receive the sum earned by all participants in this study as a donation.

Your name and email will be collected from you at the end of the study to allow us to contact you with details regarding the donation (i.e., a receipt from the organization that received the donation). This personal information will be kept completely separate from the study materials (which do not ask for your name at all), and your participation in this study will remain completely confidential.

Your participation is entirely voluntary.  You may stop participating at any time and you can skip tasks.  There are no direct benefits or risks to you from participating in these studies.

If you have any questions regarding this study, please speak with the experimenter, or the researcher Aner Tal, at 660-7643 or aner.tal@duke.edu.  You can also contact his advisor, Professor Dan Ariely, at dandan@duke.edu.  If you have any questions about your rights as a research participant, please contact the Chair of the Duke University Human Subjects Committee at 684-3030.
